This is a very classic Bordeaux right bank pure Merlot. The wine shows a brilliant ruby color, the nose is complex with intense aromas of violet, blackberry, black cherry, cedar wood and tobacco. On the palate, the wine is well structured with a good balance between the velvety soft tannins, ripe berry flavors and woody flavors (cedar wood). Slight smokiness due to the 12 months the wine has aged in barrels. The aftertaste is long and pleasant.

Château du Pavillon is located in the Canon-Fronsac wine appellation, south of Bordeaux. In 1905, Victor Ponty purchased the winery, which sits in the middle of the vineyard.

The four hectares of south-facing vineyard are planted entirely with Merlot, the family’s favourite grape. The warm, sunny conditions allow the grapes to mature to perfection, creating roundness and balance in flavour. Sustainable and organic processes are used to grow and produce the wine, protecting the fertile Cannon-Fronsac soils from chemicals.

The family still live at the property today, with Michel Ponty producing the wines. He uses the same traditional techniques as his grandfather did 100 years ago.

Canon-Fronsac is a red wine appellation from an area in the east of the Bordeaux wine region, north-west of the town of Libourne near Pomerol and Saint Émilion. The wines offer an affordable, early-drinking alternative to the more expensive wines found in the region.
