Wine Style: Full Bodied Red
Closure: Cork / Cork Type
Producer: Chateau Mont-Thabor
In 1881 the Stehelin family from Switzerland acquired the Mont-Thabor estate in Bedariddes a few kilometres from the town of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
The wines are 70% Grenache, 25% Syrah and 5% Mourvedre and Cinsault. The grapes are not destemmed, fermentation takes up to 3 weeks and the wines are then aged in three year old casks for up to 15 months depending on the vintage. The wines are not filtered prior to bottling.
Mont-Thabor Châteauneuf-du-Pape shows great concentration of fruit and complexity, the tannins are soft but sufficient for several years bottle ageing and the wines, although with sweet fruit and layers of flavour, are muscular and rich.
The moustachioed Daniel Stehelin is a master of Châteauneuf, and with consistent 90 Parker points and high praise from Jancis Robinson, he is ensured a growing reputation.
