Paolo, Mario and Guido are the fourth generation here, based near the village of Barolo and with 53 ha of vineyards across the region. (If you’re in the vicinity there’s also a rather splendid restaurant at the cellar, Massimo Camia.) Like many producers the Damilanos have given up their French barriques and gone back to traditional Piemontese botte.
The Cannubi vineyard hardly needs an introduction from me: it’s one of Barolo’s greatest sites and the Damilanos own or rent 10 ha of it – an impressive holding.
Cannubi is considered the Grand Cru vineyard for the Barolo, an extraordinary wine in terms of style and elegance.
