Danie de Wet has established a worldwide reputation for his estate white wines from the Robertson region east of Cape Town. Blanc Fume is a lees aged Sauvignon Blanc grown on ideal limestone and gravel soils unique to the Robertson region. It is matured for two months on the lees to give an aromatic yet robust, fruity and complex wine. It is a classic aromatic Sauvignon with notes of asparagus and greengage and lime on the finish. Food pairing: Fish pate and stew, Spanish omelette with a light crisp green salad.

Folklore has it that Danie de Wet’s ancestor travelled back from Burgundy with clones of Chardonnay tucked away in his trouser pocket. Their heritage can be traced back to 1694 when their forefathers settle in the cape and today the wine estate is run by Danie and his two sons, Johann and Peter.

A truly family run business, Lesca de Wet, runs the marketing side of the company; indeed she has one of Danie’s award winning Chardonnays named after her.

Located in the Robertson Valley overlooking the Breede River, the De Wetshof Estate creates a range of wines shaped by the diversity of site specific vineyards which are exposed on the slopes to the region’s chalk and limestone soil.

In 2016 Danie received the prestigious 1659 Honorary Award, the recipient of which is chosen by a panel of wine industry stalwarts and presented to an individual who has created a legacy and played a profound role in the South African wine industry.
